I am particularly excited about this project because I am currently working as an intern for Z2 Entertainment, a company that does event production at the Boulder Theater and Fox Theater. As an intern, you can either go into stage management, audio engineering, and lighting design. Personally, I'm focused on lighting design. Lighting includes stage lights, lasers, led board visuals, and projection mapping, but the internship only offers education on stage lighting, which is a great thing to learn, but is very limited when you consider the full scope of what lighting is.
This project and the previous project have been great opportunities to learn more about generating visuals as well as projection mapping. The point is, for this project I want to take an approach with event production in mind. I want my projection show to be very rhythmic and danceable. I will probably be using videos of animals dancing, dances from popular tv shows and movies, and I'm also planning on stealing some visuals from some of my favorite artists.
For the VDMX lab, I used some visuals from an artist named Liquid Stranger, who played Red Rocks last month. The visuals he has released on Youtube are very vibrant, but I don't think they would be too overpowering when layered on top of another video, which is perfect for what I want to do.
I'm also thinking of other kinds of videos that are rhythmic. One of my ideas it to use fight scenes from movies like The Matrix or Kill Bill. I think this would look really great. I'm still considering different ideas and keeping notes of my best ones, so I just can't wait until I've figured everything out and start to put it all together with effects.
